No Talmudic figure is more controversial, and less understood, than Elisha ben Abuye. His story is one of meteoric rise and fall from one of the great scholars of his generation to a heretic convinced that there was no way back into the fold. It begs the essential question: What are the limits to Teshuva (repentence). Can everything be forgiven? We will immerse ourselves in the original Talmudic texts, try to place ourselves back in the lives of the Sages of the Talmud and emerge not only with a better understanding of this radical narrative, but with a new prism to understand the Teshuva process as well.
