In this session, we will trace significant compositions in the classical music repertory and learn to hear the liturgical shadings and sometimes direct quotes that enter into these pieces from the Jewish musical traditions.  I will provide background and then share played examples, recorded and from the keyboard. We will be listening to composers such as Salamone Rossi   Felix Mendlessohn, Gustav Mahler as well as some examples of my own compositions.  The session includes a short lecture segment as well as an audio demonstration of the interplay between these two disparate modes of music.
